Tapar o Sol com a peneira

To fix a symptom, but not the root cause. It means, literally, to try to hide the Sun with a sieve or sifter. Used whenever someone tries to solve a problem without really looking at what is the real issue.

- Veio outra vez um erro no meu pagamento e ela falou que não era nada, arrumou na hora e falou que agora está tudo certo… mas já é a sexta vez esse ano!

Same as the English metaphor “fig leaf”, where someone tries to cover up something embarrassing, distasteful, or shameful. Where the cover is only a gesture and the truth is obvious to all.
